The 2026 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) draft took place Tuesday afternoon and ended with a few players from Prince Albert earning a shot to play in the Junior A league.

The draft held two rounds of picks for players born in 2011, and another six rounds for players born in 2010.

Out of the 2011 crop, three members of the provincial champion Prince Albert Pirates U15 AA team were selected. Caleb Philp, who is from Shellbrook, was selected second overall by the Warman Wolverines, followed by Lachlan Vandall who went third overall to the La Ronge Ice Wolves. Defenceman Luke Trann was the 21st pick of the draft by the Nipawin Hawks.

All three players were also drafted in the WHL Prospects Draft earlier this summer.

Philp posted 28G-45A-73P in 27 games with the Pirates and played 4 games with the U18 AAA Mintos last season. He was also selected 25th overall by the Swift Current Broncos in this year’s WHL Prospects Draft.

Vandall posted 21G-21A-35P in 26 games last season, and was also called up by the Mintos for seven games. The Prince Albert local was drafted 115th overall by the Prince George Cougars in the WHL Prospects Draft.

Trann, also a Prince Albert local, posted 7G-28A-35P in 22 games as a defenceman. Trann was taken 78th overall by the Kelowna Rockets in the WHL Prospects Draft.

Moving on to the 2010 born draft, Prince Albert was again on the board early.

With the fourth overall pick, the Humboldt Broncos selected forward Burke Whitter. The Prince Albert product had a great year of growth, first starting the season with the U16 AA Prince Albert Renegades where he put up 26G-17A-43P in 18 games. That lead to a three game call up with the U18 AA Timberwolves where he added 1G-1A-2P.

Whitter finished the season with the Prince Albert Mintos where he posted 4G-7A-11P in 15 games.

To kick off the fourth round of the draft, the La Ronge Ice Wolves used pick #37 to select Prince Albert born defenceman Rhett Franklin. He played with the Prince Albert Renegades U16 AA team where he posted 16G-22A-38P. He was also called up to the Mintos for four games last season.

The final Prince Albert local selected was Emmett Kihn, who was taken 71st overall by the Yorkton Terriers. A forward, Kihn played 33 games with the Prince Albert Renegades U16 AA team last year and posted 25G-37A-62P. He also was called up with the Mintos for eight games.

Prince Albert Raiders fans may have also noticed the 41st overall pick as Raiders draft pick Walker Bergen was selected by the Estevan Bruins. Originally from Hague, Bergen played this past season with the Warman Wolverines U18 AAA team and posted 5G-12A-17P in 44 games.
