Lockhart acknowledged one of the challenges they face, particularly in the older age divisions, where the girls can drive themselves to practice and tournaments, is a high attrition rate to the bigger centers, like Saskatoon. However, at the same time, there has been big growth in U13, U14 and U15 developmental stages, thereby requiring more teams to meet the demand.

Lockhart confirmed they are also always looking for coaches. He added they do reimburse coaches for costs, and provide the training.

“ We really don’t wanna turn away girls at the younger ages.”

Sara Kuzniar is graduating this year and has been playing club volleyball for eight years. She said her experience has been very memorable and will always treasure the friendships she made and the lessons she learned.

‘It taught me to stay calm, remain positive, and look at the outcome instead of the now,” she said. 

After graduation this month, Kuzniar plans to attend Sask Polytech and take cosmetology classes. She said volleyball has taught her time management and the importance of showing up.
