Prince Albert Skating Club searching for new coach

May 27, 2026 | 12:31 PM

The Prince Albert Skating Club may be done for the season, but it still has work to do before the next skating year. The club is looking for a new coach to take over one of its younger programs.

Head coach Carla Jenkins outlined the duties the new coach would take on.

“Our Learn-To-Skate programs, we have PresCanSkate who are three to five year olds that are really just getting started, and then our CanSkate programs can be anywhere from 4 to teenager ages, and they’d be in charge of all these programs, all the coaches and program assistants that run the programs. We’re looking at close to about 200 skaters with those groups. That’s a big job.”

Jenkins said applicants will need more than the usual Respect in Sport certification. With the club hoping to hear from interested candidates before the end of June, first-time coaches would need to begin the certification process soon.

“So with Skate Canada, for them to be able to coach the CanSkate program, they have to be CanSkate certified. That’s what we’re looking for is a CanSkate certified coach at the very least. The next level of coaching is called Regional. If they have that as well, that’s even better. Then they can do more with our star skate figure skaters as well, which we can always use some help.”

With more than 200 children in its youth programs alone, the skating club is one of the city’s busiest winter activities. Jenkins said the person stepping into the role will need to work closely with other coaches to plan and deliver programming.

“We definitely want someone who is a good team player, like that’s good with, working with other coaches. We team coach here…so, there’s a lot of interaction between the other coaches and someone who’s organized, good with kids, obviously fun, passionate, loves our sport, and wants to pay it forward. So all of that for sure.”
