Meth, lighters and phones seized at Sask. Penitentiary

May 7, 2026 | 1:18 PM

A public tip and watchful staff led to the discovery of almost $850,000 (institutional value) of contraband being found and seized at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert on May 5.

The items found include methamphetamine, tobacco, lighters, mobile phones and accessories.

Police are investigating.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) said it uses a number of tools to prevent drugs from entering its institutions. These tools include ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search buildings, personal property, inmates, and visitors.
