PUBLIC NOTICE

Lloydminster RCMP responds to five overdoses in seven hours

Apr 14, 2026 | 10:28 AM

Lloydminster RCMP is warning the public after officers responded to five suspected overdoses in the span of seven hours.

During this time, four doses of Narcan were utilized to help, and there was one instance where an RCMP member transported a person in need to the hospital due to a delay with ground ambulance services.

These overdoses occurred in separate incidents with none resulting in fatality. Investigation has not yet indicated where the drugs consumed were purchased. It is suspected that these drugs may have been laced or have higher levels of opioids than expected.

Lloydminster RCMP is reminding the public that signs of a fentanyl overdose include pinpoint pupils, muscle stiffness, seizures, unconsciousness, and irregular or shallow breathing.

If a person chooses to consume illicit drugs, RCMP shares safe practices to follow:

  • Avoid using while alone.
  • Ask someone to check on you or consume while on the phone with a trusted person who is able to call for assistance in the event of an overdose.
  • Know the signs and symptoms of poisoning or overdose and call 911 for direction and support.
  • Carry a naloxone kit, and know how to use it, so you can respond to a suspected opioid poisoning or overdose.
  • Consider using the Digital Overdose Response System app when consuming drugs.

In Saskatoon, officials are also alerting the public about a high risk of overdose after the fire department responded to over 150 calls between April 1 and 11. Many of these calls required naloxone and involved more than one individual. No information on the substance causing these overdoses are available at this time.
