Woman pleads guilty to dangerous driving, hitting police vehicles

Feb 3, 2026 | 10:51 AM

A woman who was charged after a series of events last July that began with a house fire and robbery at Little Red River Reserve, and ended after a short police chase, has taken responsibility for the role she played.

Kara Larson’s case was discussed Tuesday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court. The scheduled trial was cancelled and by way of her lawyer, the 21-year-old entered guilty pleas to dangerous driving, flight from police and mischief (hitting police vehicles).

Sentencing has been scheduled for February 25.

On the morning of July 18, members of the Prince Albert RCMP attended a house fire in the community of Little Red River.

When they arrived, they found the home fully engulfed in flames. Two occupants escaped and were taken to hospital by EMS with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators determined individuals known to the occupants entered the home, discharged bear spray, took various items, ignited a fire and then fled in a vehicle.

Around a half hour later, police found the suspects outside of a home on Sturgeon Lake First Nation, but when they approached, the suspects fled in two vehicles – a car and a truck.

The truck wouldn’t stop for police and the car rammed an RCMP cruiser multiple times before fleeing. No officers were injured.

During the chase, occupants in the car threw an item out the window. A loaded, sawed-off rifle and a magazine were later recovered. The car eventually came to a stop and the driver and two occupants were arrested. Police also seized a butane torch lighter, bear mace, an edged weapon, ammunition and stolen property when they searched the vehicle.

Also charged were Rachelle Ballantyne and Cody Naytowhow.

Naytowhow’s next scheduled court date is Feb. 5 and Ballantyne has a preliminary inquiry hearing scheduled for March 2.
