Mother from Air Ronge, son from Meadow Lake split $1M Lotto MAX win from ticket purchased in Kinistino

Tracy Fiske thought she was unlucky when she couldn’t find a turkey to buy for family supper.

Stores in Melfort didn’t have any, so she drove to Kinistino.

“While we were there, I stopped at the gas station to buy a LOTTO MAX ticket.”

Turns out she was lucky.

“When I checked the ticket, I was like, ‘Is this real?’” Tracy said in a new release. “It didn’t seem real. I probably scanned it ten times.”

The lottery ticket they purchased from the Co-op at 100 Main Street in Kinistino matched one of the 46 MAXMILLIONS prize selections in the Dec. 26 draw.

“She called me and said, ‘How about I give you half a million dollars?’ said her son, Bryce.

The mother from Air Ronge and her son, who lives in Meadow Lake, had been buying lottery tickets together for years – usually sporadically or for bigger jackpots.

“My mom started it, but we take turns and go buy a couple of tickets, and put both our names on them,” Bryce explained. “It’s random–it’s not every week –but we really did quite a few in a row while the jackpot was $80 million,” he said.

“It gives us something to talk about and connect on regularly,” Tracy added.

Now the two are talking about how they’ll spend their million-dollar prize. Bryce said he’ll first pay off his vehicle, and there’s been discussions about a family trip, but nothing has been decided. Both agree they’re in shock that a trip to buy a turkey resulted in the two of them kicking off the new year with a million dollars.

“It’s super exciting, and to win in a small town in a country this big is unreal,” said Bryce.
