Awaiting sentencing

Man responsible for car jacking and flight from police avoids trial by entering guilty pleas

A man who made good on a promise to continue his criminal ways, unless allowed to serve a sentence at a rehabilitation facility, is now awaiting sentencing on his new charges and likely facing a much stiffer sentence.

Jordan Jenkins, 26, appeared Wednesday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court and by way of his lawyer, entered guilty pleas to a number of charges related to armed robbery, dangerous driving, flight from police and possession of a weapon.

The two matters were initially scheduled for trial.

In June, 2023, Jenkins was responsible for a car jacking in Prince Albert. The victim was threatened with a long barrelled rifle.

Three months later, Jenkins was arrested again after a flight from police on a motorcycle and was injured when arrested by the canine officer. A knife was recovered by the police officers.

At the time of both offences, Jenkins had also been on both probation and a driving prohibition.

In March, 2023, Jenkins received a 90 day sentence for a separate dangerous driving incident in which he was behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle.

At the time, Jenkins, who confessed to using meth since he was 11, asked the judge if he could serve his sentence at a rehabilitation facility.

“Jail is not gonna help,” Jenkins explained, adding rehab was the only way he saw himself changing his ways.

“I’ll be doing the exact thing. I don’t have support,” he said.

Informing Jenkins he did not have the authority to decide where a sentence is served, the presiding judge at the time said he could make the recommendation.

Sentencing on the latest convictions will occur on May 22. A pre-sentence report has also been ordered which will canvass community based programming as well as Gladue factors.

Defence lawyer Brian Pfefferle noted his intent to file a joint sentence recommendation with the Crown.
