Less than six months after warning a judge he would continue with his criminal ways if he was not allowed to serve his sentence at a rehabilitation facility, the same man is back in court with related charges.

Early Tuesday morning, 25-year-old Jordan Jenkins was charged with driving dangerously, fleeing from Prince Albert Police on a motorcycle and was injured when arrested by the canine officer.

The case was addressed Wednesday afternoon at Prince Albert Provincial Court and adjourned to Sept 5. Jenkins was not present and his Legal Aid lawyer explained his client was at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. There were no other details provided including Jenkins’s current status.

According to information provided by Prince Albert Police on Tuesday, Jenkins was transported to the Victoria Hospital for treatment and later released into police custody. The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) his currently investigating the circumstances of the injury which occurred during the arrest.

On March 14, Jenkins received a 90-day jail sentence and one-year driving prohibition after fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle, at a speed twice the legal limit.

The sentence represented a joint submission from lawyers and Jenkins’s lawyer Dale Blenner-Hassett who explained his client started using meth at the age of 11, and had been diagnosed with fetal alcohol syndrome.

When given the opportunity to speak, Jenkins at the time asked the judge if he could serve his sentence at a rehabilitation facility.

“Jail is not gonna help,” he explained, adding rehab was the only way he saw himself changing his ways.

“I’ll be doing the exact thing. I don’t have support,” he said.

Informing Jenkins he did not have the authority to decide where a sentence is served, but could make the recommendation, Judge Hugh Harradence acknowledged Jenkins’s motivation to change.

“Some of this you have to take on yourself,” he said.
