Prince Albert judge orders trial for alleged drunk driver

A young woman alleged responsible for a multi-vehicle crash in Prince Albert’s downtown area while impaired and behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle, will face trial.

Cherise Harris’ case was discussed Tuesday afternoon at Provincial Court.

In relation to the incident that occurred on Oct. 2., not guilty pleas were entered on her behalf by Judge Scheifner to the six charges that are before the court including; impaired driving, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and leaving the scene of an accident.

At the time of the offence, the 19-year-old was also under a probation order that prohibited her from driving.

The crash occurred at the corner of 15th St. W and Bishop McLean Cr. (Gateway Mall Entrance).

Two of the vehicles collided head on, and a third smaller car, suffering rear end damage, was observed parked in the westbound lane, facing east.

A female was taken to hospital with minor injuries, but it’s not clear if this was in fact Harris.

When she last appeared in court, she had expressed a desire to resolve the matter and a number of guilty pleas were entered for her. However, some concerns were raised with respect to her mental health so the pleas were expunged and the case was adjourned another week to allow her time to see a doctor.

On Tuesday, the thinly-framed Harris confirmed she was doing better.

A trial date will be confirmed when Harris returns to court on Dec. 2
