Cargill has renewed its three-year funding commitment and increased its contribution to the Canadian Cattle Young Leaders (CYL) Program.

Cargill joins McDonald’s Canada as a Platinum Partner of the CYL Program.

Cargill’s funding will allow each mentee access to up to a $3,000 travel budget, an increase of $1,000 each. Cargill’s increased support also helps to fund mentors’ attendance at the annual CYL Graduation at the Canadian Beef Industry Conference with their mentee.

CCA President Nathan Phinney said program has made many positive impacts in the Canadian beef industry since it started in 2010.

“With contributions made possible with the funding support of long-time supporters like Cargill we look forward to seeing the tremendous impact of Cargill’s investment in creating a resilient and sustainable beef industry in Canada,” he said.

Cargill’s involvement over the years includes collaboration on workshops and tours, participating in the CYL Selections Competition where program participants are chosen annually, and providing program mentors.

Kristine Tapley, Sustainability Customer Engagement Manager at Cargill said the company is happy to continue its support.

“The strength of our supply chain depends on the strength of programs such as these, mentoring future leaders of our industry to continue producing high-quality, sustainable Canadian beef,” she said.

The 2024-25 Canadian CYL Program year will kick off in September.
