Edwards seeks re-election in Ward 6

Jun 24, 2024 | 1:04 PM

Prince Albert’s municipal election date is roughly five months away, and another current councillor has made their intentions clear.

Blake Edwards has confirmed plans to seek re-election for Ward 6. He was first elected in 2016, and told paNOW community safety and social concerns are regular topics discussed.

“I have never steered away from having these difficult conversations with people and I have brought forward possible solutions inside the council chamber. I have been a strong voice advocating for enhanced public safety in our community since being elected, and this needs to continue,” he said.

With respect to the community’s social issues, Edwards stressed the need to work with the provincial and federal governments, and cited how during his time in office, he has built relationships within these levels of government to help achieve many of the communities’ goals. Edwards also stressed the importance of working with the Prince Albert Grand Council (PAGC) and their local government.

“I have strived to build positive relationships with the PAGC and believe that we have a strong working relationship, which can help to build a healthier/improved Prince Albert for all residents. By working together, solutions will be found,” Edwards said.

Recreation is also expected to be a big issue this election, specifically the new development on the city’s southeast side which include an Aquatic Centre, which will feature a wave pool, competition size swimming pool, and waterslides. As well, the new modern arenas will allow for larger, more successful tournaments and will help bring additional events to the city.

“This will help drive more economy to our businesses, ” Edwards noted. “I have been a strong supporter of this project and very happy that the opening will occur in the early part of 2025.”

Since being elected, Edwards has hosted numerous community meetings, and he explained the intention of bringing people together, was to both explain what the city has going on and to listen to concerns.

He then noted how at his most recent community meeting held in April 2024, he was asked by residents if they could count on him to continue to be their voice for another four years.

“If re-elected, I will continue to be out in the public, often attending sports or dance competitions with my three children who are active in the community. Being visible in our community provides all residents a chance to engage in conversation regarding our city as often as people want,” he said.

In Ward 3, Tony Head has also confirmed plans to run again and Mayor Greg Dionne plans to seek re-election.
