Little Red River levels expected to rise in next few days

The Water Security Agency is warning people that the water levels on the Spruce/Little Red River will likely exceed the river’s banks in the next five days to one week.

Continuous rainfall in north central Saskatchewan has raised water levels in the Anglin Lake reservoir to 515.51 meters and rising. The full limit is 515.42 so the water level is nine centimetres higher than full.

To keep the dam safe, operators increased the outflow on the dam on June 17 just after noon.

The outflow at the dam increased by 8.1 cubic meters per second to hit 12.1 CMS, which is about the same speed the water goes into the reservoir.

The last time similar flows were seen was in July 2020.

As a result, water in the Little Red/Spruce River will go up over the next week with it reaching Highway 2 in three or four days.

The WSA says along with the expectation that the water will exceed the banks of the river, some of the water will go into Bell Creek as well.

That last time there was an issue was in 2020.
