Jun 17, 2024 | 10:51 AM

Construction of a new school in La Loche has reached a milestone.

The building is now 65 per cent complete. The $45.7 million project is part of a joint partnership between the Government of Saskatchewan, the Northern Lights School Division and several community advocates.

According to a press release from the provincial government, students and staff will soon access to a “state of the art learning and working environment.”

“The steady advancement of this new school underscores our unwavering commitment to fostering educational excellence across Saskatchewan,” Education Minister Jeremy Cockrill said. “This milestone supports our vision of empowering generations of learners in La Loche and beyond.”

The school will be 5,548 square meters and located next to the Dene High School. It will serve 475 students from Prekindergarten to Grade 6. Design elements focus on Indigenous culture and include natural beauty of the area.

“With construction now at 65 per cent, we look forward to the completion of this facility and the positive impact it will have on La Loche and the surrounding communities,” SaskBuilds and Procurement Minister Terry Jenson said in the release.

Construction is set to conclude next spring.
