Predators fall in OT in game one of Founder Cup play-in, turn focus to game two

The Prince Albert Predators have their backs against the wall in their Founders Cup play-in series following game one on Friday.

The Preds dropped the contest in overtime, a close 11-10 battle against Regina’s Queen City Kings. With the win, Q.C. is on the cusp of their second straight Jr. B National Championship appearance as they now lead the best-of-three series 1-0.

Ethan Palandri played the role of overtime hero for the Kings, which was his third point of the night alongside a pair of assists. Jaxson Lenz paved the way for Regina scoring a hat-trick and two helpers, while Ryan McDonald also tallied a hat-trick with one assist.

For P.A., Brayden Rieger led the charge with a game high two goals and five assists while Matthew Cudmore was one point back with one goal and five assists.

In goal, Q.C. netminder Luke Andrews registered 39 saves for the win, while Preds goalie Mason Hawkes made 35 stops and was credited with the loss.

Prince Albert will now travel to Regina for game two later this week.
