Prince Albert murder case committed for trial

May 6, 2024 | 5:00 PM

A murder case involving a Vietnamese family living in Prince Albert has been green-lit for trial.

With consent from the defence, Thanh Nguyen’s case skipped Monday’s scheduled preliminary inquiry hearing and was committed for trial at Court of King’s Bench.

In the early morning hours of May 6, 2023, Prince Albert Police were called to a home in the 1100 block of Second St. E.

Inside the home, a 35-year-old woman was found deceased. A female youth was also found and taken to Victoria Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Nguyen was subsequently charged with second-degree murder, attempted murder and aggravated assault. Not guilty pleas were entered last August.

Thanh Nguyen, who was 45 at the time of his arrest last May, does not speak English and has required the assistance of a translator.

Trial dates will be set during a pre-trial hearing. The next scheduled set of hearings is on May 31.
