RM of Buckland prepares for Div. 6 election

Apr 26, 2024 | 2:00 PM

Ratepayers in the Rural Municipality (RM) of Buckland are heading to the polls.

Election day for the vacant Div. 6 councillor seat is May 8, but advance polls are on Saturday, April 27. Dennis Smith and Lillian Jacobson are the two candidates running.

Jacobson is a third-generation farmer and a dental therapist. She’s also secretary of the Spruce Home cemetery and a passionate volunteer with the Spruce Home Activity Board.

Meanwhile, Smith is a fifth-generation family farmer with 40 years of experience promoting purebred Polled Hereford cattle. He is also an entrepreneur of several businesses including Loyalist Acres Farm and has volunteer experience through his church.

Advance polls on Saturday run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and voting will occur at the RM’s municipal office in Prince Albert.

Former Div. 6 Councillor Bill Hayes resigned last November.

He previously told paNOW he’s 75 years old and dealing with health-related conditions.

“I just kinda kinda felt it’s been enough time. I think I should be able to have a bit of time for me to just do nothing. It’ll probably drive me nuts,” he joked.

Before being elected in 2000, Hayes was with the Prince Albert Fire Department for over 25 years.
