Byelection date confirmed for RM of Buckland council seat

Rate payers in the Rural Municipality of Buckland will head to the polls in May.

As per discussion at Monday’s council meeting, the byelection for the empty Div. 6 seat will take place May 8.

The call for nominations will be March 20 and the nomination will be April 3.

Outgoing councillor, Bill Hayes, resigned last month.

Hayes told paNOW he’s 75 years old and dealing with a few health related conditions.

“I just kinda kinda felt it’s been enough time. I think I should be able to have a bit of time for me to just do nothing. It’ll probably drive me nuts,” he joked.

Prior to being elected in 2000, Hayes was with the Prince Albert Fire Department for over 25 years.

He has seven children, and while he owns property in the city, fulfilled a personal dream years ago to build a house in the country.

Rate payers will actually head to the polls twice next year, as the election for reeve, and divisions one, three and five will be held in November.
