Prince Albert Raiders import forward Matej Kubiesa will represent his home nation at the IIHF U18 Men’s World Championship in Finland next week.

On Friday, the club announced that Kubiesa was added to Czechia’s national team for the tournament that begins on Thursday.

Kubiesa wrapped up his rookie season in the WHL with the Raiders earlier this month when P.A. was defeated 4-1 in their first-round playoff series against Saskatoon. In 55 regular season games, the 17-year-old netted six goals and eight assists while appearing in two playoff games.

Before joining the Raiders, Kubiesa totalled 31 points in 29 games splitting time between Czechia and Sweden in U17 and U18 play.

The right winger won’t be the only player representing Hockeytown North at the tournament, as Raiders standout Ryder Ritchie will represent Canada.

Kubiesa and Team Czechia begin their tournament against Switzerland on Thursday and a day later, they play Ritchie and Team Canada on Friday.
