Prince Albert scores big haul at youth jiu-jitsu tournament

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a sport that has grown in popularity and attracts athletes of all ages, and over the weekend many young warriors from Prince Albert put their skills to the test.

The 10th Annual Western Canadian Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournament was held this past weekend in Regina.

From Prince Albert’s Renegade Grappling Academy, there were 10 competitors.

Aurora Jubenvill – double bronze – Girls Gi and No Gi (white / eight to nine years/ 60 pounds)

Kieran Stroet – finished fourth in Gi and third in No Gi (white /four to five years/41-45 pounds)

Ashton Knecht – double Silver in Gi and No Gi (white /four to five years/46-53 pounds)

Eric Nagy – bronze Gi and silver No Gi (white / six to seven years/56-61 pounds)

Henry Jubenvill – 5th Gi and No Gi (Grey / six to seven years/48-55 pounds)

Dominic Parent – double bronze in Gi and No Gi (Yellow/12-13 years/108-116 pounds)

Head Instructor Brad Parent told paNOW he was very proud of all his students.

“I know for some it was an awaking, because for all but one it was their first tournament and didn’t know what to expect. They over came that and represent Renegade Grappling Academy with dignity,” he said.

North Wake Martial Arts had four students competing in Regina.

Augustus Friesen won two gold, and Penelope Reimer won a bronze.

North Wake also had four students compete in Lethbridge at their open Light contact MMA Tournament.

Prathum Bhatia won gold, Keston Pocha won gold, and Aniket Saggar won bronze.
