Prince Albert day care operators respond to knife incident
In response to a knife related incident this week near a Prince Albert child care center, local operators across the city are confirming plans to review and even upgrade existing security.
Danielle Werchuk, co-executive director of Children’s Choice, said hearing the news of a man with a knife, moving in the direction of a midtown area facility, was alarming.
“We’ve had two incidents in our centers last summer, where we put ourselves on lockdown,” she said. “So it does make you look at different security needs in our buildings.”
When asked to elaborate, Werchuk said there was no direct threat to either centre involved, just a visible police presence that was in the area. Going forward she confirmed discussions with respect to upgrading security systems and also possibly introducing a key fob entry.
