Prince Albert bowlers knock down the competition at Provincials

Apr 2, 2024 | 4:20 PM

The Great Western Open Provincials were held last weekend in Saskatoon and Prince Albert was well represented.

The Men’s team finished third behind Saskatoon and Regina.

The mixed team won silver and was only three points behind Saskatoon.

Sean Dieno was named to the men’s all star team. Over the course of 10 games, his average score was 238.90.

His best game was his third game in which he bowled a 279. He told paNOW

Overall, the weekend was a bit of a struggle for many bowlers.

“The two bowling alleys in Saskatoon, Fairhaven and Eastview, provided a tough pin fall for the bowlers making it more challenging to have success. Two of the three teams that had the honor of representing PA at the Great Western Open Provincials still did well enough to leave with some hardware,” he said. “Next year we look forward to coming back better and stronger, and re-set our eyes on Nationals.”

Christa Mulhall is President of the Prince Albert Five Pin Association and told paNOW she was very proud of how everyone did.

“It may not have been the outcome that they were looking for, but the lanes were tough and the breaks were even rougher. You could tell they never gave up and gave it their all, right to the end,” she said.

And Mulhall was also no slouch, finishing second overall in the ladies division behind Regina’s Josie Brooks.

Mulhall’s 10 game average was 246.70 and she scored a 289 in her tenth and final game.

Any teams or singles players who placed first will represent Saskatchewan at Nationals in Ottawa in June.

Prince Albert’s qualifying tournament was held in January.
