Prince Albert celebs get footloose for a good cause

Is there a doctor in the house, because some of Prince Albert’s biggest celebrities are coming down with a case of Saturday Night Fever.

The annual Swinging With The Stars event, at the jam packed Exhibition Centre, was a major success and raised over $200,000 for Hope’s Home – a local childcare centre that provides supports for children with complex medical needs.

Corliss Rassyle was among the celebs who took part and told paNOW the more she learned about Hope’s Home, the more passionate she became to help the families involved.

“Meeting the kids, touring the facility and meeting the staff was really enlightening. I realized as a mother myself, and new grandmother, that although I was blessed with healthy children, these kinds of complex medical conditions can happen to any family, and not only should I not take it for granted but also help those who have the navigate those challenges,” she said.

All the pairs had been practicing their routines for months, and for many it meant taking a big step out of their individual comfort zones. Even Rassyle, who through her work as a motivational speaker and personal growth coach is used to being in front of large crowds, admitted she felt nervous.

“I wasn’t in dance even as a child, so performing a dance I’d never done before was scary. Luckily, I’m surrounded by kind and supportive people and had a great dancer instructor to lead me. By finding the courage to follow through I can be proud to be part of something that made a difference. I will cherish the experience and am grateful I got the chance to be part of it.”

Kelly Disiewich is a managing partner at MNP, and did not think twice when asked to come bust out some moves for a good cause.

“My youngest went to Hope’s Home for a little bit and its just such a needed service in the community,” he said.

Joking his dancing background consisted of his time during college at the bar, Disiewich said he really enjoyed the experience. And his teacher Makenna Litzenberger, agreed it was challenging teaching someone with no dance experience or rhythm.

“But you know it’s been fun”, she said, adding Kelly did catch on really fast.

Dustin Shier from Supplement World was another celebrity on stage, and is perhaps better known for breaking records at the gym. He admitted learning the dance steps and choreography was harder than lifting weights.

“It was definitely out of my comfort zone but when I heard it’s for a lot of kids with disabilities and different needs, I was more than happy to jump on board and support it,” he explained.

Shier’s partner Nicole Kriel said she was blown away by Shier’s dedication, and also expressed her own excitement about helping the cause.

“We’ve raised so much over the last four years and I’m just excited to be a part of raising more for them,” she said.

This year’s guest judges were Farica Prince, Malcolm Jenkins and Tia Furstenberg.

The final amount raised this year was of Sunday night still being tallied, however the dancers alone were able to raise close to $80,000.

Last year’s event raised about $160,000.
