Taxi company proposes 12 per cent fare increase

Mar 19, 2024 | 4:55 PM

The owners of Grey Cab and Checker & Family taxi services have asked Prince Albert city council to approve a 12 per cent increase to rates.

Multiple drivers attended the Executive Committee meeting on Monday as observers.

The cab companies say that their costs have increased with higher prices for gasoline, used vehicles and other essential commodities and there has been no rate increase since 2018.

If successful, the fares for the meter drop and first 33 meters would increase from $3.50 to $3.90 and the running cost would go up by 40 cents to $3.40.

Waiting time would cost .90 cents per minute and $54/hour. Out of town destinations would land at $2.00 from the $1.85 they are now.

Council did not decide yet and instead referred the matter to the Planning and Development Services department to review. Once completed, the results will be brought back to another meeting of the executive committee.
