Timberjaks, Westleys going to do-or-die game three in PJHL playoffs

Feb 25, 2024 | 1:00 PM

The Prince Albert Timberjaks and Saskatoon Westleys are going to sudden death in their best-of-three playoff series in the Prairie Junior Hockey League (PJHL).

The series currently sits at 1-1, where the Timberjaks took game one in Saskatoon on Friday 7-4, while the Westleys returned the favour with a 5-1 win in Buckland the following night on Saturday.

P.A.’s head coach Steph Corfmat shared his thoughts on his team’s performance following their game two loss at home.

“[Game one] we came out and played how we should’ve, and we got rewarded with a 7-4 win. [Saturday] we didn’t want to pay the price, didn’t work as hard as we should’ve and it results in the scoreboard being 5-1.”

Game one saw four different Jaks find the back of the net including Keethan Isbister who potted a hat-trick, Cohen Noreikat who scored twice, and Matthew Cudmore and Keestin Danielson who both had one.

Game two had just one player from P.A. light the lamp, and that was when Aaron Campbell scored his first playoff goal just 23 seconds into the contest.

The series now switches focus to Rod Hamm Arena in Saskatoon when the puck drops for game three on Wednesday night. Corfmat said after their game two loss, some things need to get ironed out before they enter game three.

“We need to crash the net, we need to shoot, and we need to play hard. We need to skate and, if we skate and play like we can, we can beat any of the teams in the league. We need to work hard and pay the price.”

The winner of the series will advance to the semi-finals where they will meet the number one seed in the North, the Saskatoon Royals. The season deciding game three is slated for an 8 p.m. puck drop.
