Five-year jail sentence for P.A. meth trafficker

A 32-year-old Prince Albert man will spend the next five years of his life behind bars after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including trafficking methamphetamines.

Landon Vandale was sentenced on Feb. 21 as part of a joint submission between the Crown prosecutor’s office and his lawyer.

Vandale came to the attention of Prince Albert police officers on July 4, 2023 as they were watching another person, but saw Vandale riding a bicycle past their location.

What looked like the barrel of a gun was poking out of the backpack he was wearing so officers followed him in order to make sure.

He initially fled, ditching the backpack and the bike but was found shortly afterwards.

After police determined he had outstanding warrants for driving while disqualified, they found the backpack and the bicycle.

What police thought was a gun were actually the handlebars of a child’s bike. They also discovered a stun gun, baggies, a scale and meth in the backpack.

Vandale admitted he was a meth user and said he only sold it to support himself.

Before that case was resolved, Vandale was once again the subject of a CDSA search warrant on Oct. 18 on 15th Street west in Prince Albert.

Officers had received tips that trafficking was happening inside the home.

Police found a bag of meth in the living area of the basement floor along with two bags of cocaine.

They also collected knives, a .22 calibre sawed off rifle, 66 grams of meth, three scales and two cellphones along with packaging material.

Three bikes were seized, one of which had been reported stolen.

For the first incident, Vandale was given a one-year prison sentence, which will be served consecutively by a four-year sentence for the second crime.

He was given credit for 189 days of incarceration before being convicted, a lifetime weapons ban and a will provide a DNA sample to the national data base.

Court heard Vandale is a father and started drinking at age 15 and by 18 was using marijuana and meth.
