Mintos make it three-in-a-row with overtime win in Warman

The Prince Albert Mintos completed the sweep of their home-and-home weekend with the Warman Wildcats on Monday afternoon, winning 3-2 in overtime at the Warman Home Centre Communiplex.

The win is the third in a row for P.A. after they beat the Wildcats at the Art Hauser Centre on Saturday, 4-2. The victory also wrapped up the season series with Warman where the two clubs with two wins apiece.

Following a scoreless first period, the Mintos got on the board first in the second period thanks to Abinet Klassen’s 16th of the season which came early in the frame.

Fast forward to the third with Prince Albert still up 1-0 and the Wildcats managed to break the goose egg courtesy of Cade Hynd’s marker just 90 seconds in.

However, the game was knotted at one for just 24 seconds as Teigan Semchyshen had an answer to put Prince Albert back on top.

In the final minutes of the game with the net empty, the Wildcats cashed in with the extra man with Jack Janzen finding the back of the net to force overtime.

There, it didn’t take long to find a winner as P.A.’s Konnor Watson lit the lamp 46 seconds into the overtime period to topple the Wildcats 3-2, and to push the Mintos win streak to three games.

Finding the assist column for the Green and Gold was Klassen, Raydr Wallington, Lincoln Rogers, and Van Taylor while Trey Markus and Cameron Jacobson managed helpers for Warman.

In goal for the Mintos was Brady Holtvogt who stopped 23 shots as P.A. improves to 24-13-5 on the campaign.

Meanwhile, Riley Deck was handed the loss for the Wildcats where he made 27 stops as Warman falls to 27-11-4 on the year.

Following the home-and-home, the Mintos now have two games remaining on their schedule before the playoffs as they will wrap up the regular season on the road in Southern Saskatchewan this weekend.

Prince Albert will travel to the Queen City on Saturday to face the Regina Pat Canadians before continuing south to Wilcox where they will match up against the Notre Dame Hounds to close out the regular season on Sunday.
