Feb 10, 2024 | 6:13 PM

The Mann-Northway Northern Bears got themselves back into the win column at the Art Hauser Centre on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears welcomed Weyburn to Hockeytown North for their final meeting of the campaign which saw Prince Albert cruise past the Gold Wings 4-1. The win closes the gap in the standings between the two clubs for the final playoff spot as the Bears now sit just one game back.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

The Black and Orange established themselves early in the opening frame with Bree Purcell getting P.A. on the board just six minutes in. Then later in the period while down a man, Kinley Brassard doubled the lead with her third of the season.

The Bears carried the two-goal lead into the second where they continued to pile on as Tristyn Endicott made it 3-0 less than 2:30 in. However, the party was halted a short time later when Hadley Revenko broke the goose egg for Weyburn to cut into the deficit.

It remained 3-1 for all but 24 seconds as P.A. quickly reestablished the three-goal lead. Julia Cey tickled twine to light the lamp for the team-leading 12th time of the season.

The score stayed that way until the third when Weyburn began to ramp up the pressure. The Gold Wings dominated P.A. on the shot clock 16-4 in the final frame but luckily Annika Neufeldt was able to stand tall in goal and hang on for the 4-1 win.

Endicott and Cey also tacked on assists in the win, as did Ella Clarke and Caprice Harder, while Hallie Parada was the lone assist-getter for Weyburn.

As mentioned earlier, Neufeldt collected the win and made 38 total saves to help P.A. improve to 3-14-2-3 on the year.

In the other goal was Amy Swayze who had 23 saves as the Gold Wings fall to 4-15-3-1.

The Bears continue their lengthy nine-game homestand against the Battlefords Sharks on Wednesday night for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop at the Art Hauser Centre.
