New poll shows NDP leading amongst decided Sask. voters

According to the results of a new poll, decided Saskatchewan voters would elect a provincial New Democratic government if they went to the polls today.

A new independent poll released on Friday by Insightrix revealed more information into Saskatchewan voter intent and teacher labour negotiations.

The Insightrix poll showed that, amongst decided voters, 49 per cent said they would cast their vote for the Saskatchewan NDP as of Feb. 2024, compared to 47 per cent that would vote for the Sask. Party.

Voters in Saskatoon reportedly show the strongest support for the NDP, while rural areas continue to more strongly support the Sask. Party government.

Previously, voter data showed 51 per cent support for the Sask. Party in Oct. 2023, compared to 45 per cent for the provincial NDP.

The poll also examined where public opinion stands in the ongoing negotiations between the Government of Saskatchewan and teachers in the province.

Recently, teachers have spent several days out on picket lines as part of single-day and rotating strike action to put pressure on the government to consider a better offer for wages and working conditions.

The Insightrix poll found the public to largely side with teachers over the provinical government — about 68 per cent support teachers, compared to 15 per cent in support of the province and 16 per cent who were not sure.

NDP voters and those who considered themselves undecided in how they would vote in the next election both largely favoured the position of Saskatchewan teachers, according to the poll.
