A 13-year-old youth is charged with several counts of assault with a weapon and attempted robbery in connection with several bear spray attacks in Prince Albert recently.

Prince Albert Police said a parent brought the youth into the station on January 26, where he was taken into custody and charged for two separate incidents.

In the first incident on Jan. 23, three youth ages 10, 12 and 13 were walking in the 1500 block of 15th Street west when they were approached by two other youth.

One of the youth discharged bear spray at the victims, identified as three girls in the video that was posted to social media showing the attack as it unfolded.

The three victims then ran home and decontaminated themselves but later saw the video online and reported it to police.

The second incident was the following day at 1:20 a.m., when a 40-year-old woman, who as shown in the video uses a walker and cannot stand straight up, was robbed.

The suspect approached her with a can of bear spray and demanded her property and money. She did not give him any.

That video was also posted to Facebook.

The teen will have his first appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Feb. 5. He has been released from custody. He cannot be named due to provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The incident has drawn a lot of attention on local social media pages.
