Person dies in Nipawin house fire

Jan 16, 2024 | 12:03 PM

The Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service is working to identify a person who was found deceased in a burned home in Nipawin.

RCMP say that they assisted fire services at the scene but as the incident was not criminal, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency is responsible for the continued investigation.

The home on Fourth Street North burned the morning of Saturday, Jan. 13, according to Nipawin Fire and Rescue.

Nipawin Fire was called to the scene just before 11 am, and found the two-story home fully engulfed in flames.

Both engines attended the scene but firefighters were unable to find one un-accounted for resident.

They found the person’s remains on the main floor and removed them.

Heavy equipment was eventually brought in to get the fire under control.

“The Nipawin Fire Department shares the community’s sorrow and asks those on social media to use respect and discretion when sharing/discussing with others,” said the department in a news release on Jan. 16.
