A man who spent three decades developing the business portfolio of the Peter Ballantyne group of companies has been named the Legacy Award winner by the Prince Albert Chamber of Commerce.

Trevor Ives, CA, CPA, was given the award posthumously in acknowledgement of the impact he made for PBCN.

“Trevor was very instrumental in championing business growth and strength for the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation helping them building their business portfolio in the Prince Albert region,” said Patty Hughes, CEO of the Chamber. “It is always a privilege to award business leaders for their commitment to the community.”

Ives was 57 when he died on October 30 and grew up on an acreage near Martensville before enrolling in the accounting program at the University of Saskatchewan.

After living in Calgary for some years, Ives and his wife Shauna moved back to Saskatchewan where he started working for the Prince Albert Development Corporation and then was hired by Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation.

Under Ives’ leadership, the PBCN group of companies developed three retail Petro-Canada sites, four Super 8 franchises, a Tim Hortons and JNE Welding LP – which is recognized as a top managed business across Canada.

The chamber will announce the next instalment of its annual Samuel McLeod Business Awards finalists on March 11 during the lunch to honour the Legacy Award winner, sponsored by Scotiabank this year.

“Scotiabank is extending our congratulations to this year’s award recipient Trevor Ives. Trevor has been a pillar of the Indigenous business community and is deserving of this prestigious honour. He was instrumental in fostering and supporting Indigenous businesses over the years, creating a strong vibrant future for Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation and their business portfolio,” said Diane Ethier, Branch Manager, Scotiabank.

On April 12, the chamber will reveal the winners of the 2023 business awards and present Ives’s award to his wife.
