Death of Muskeg Lake Elder results in 12 year prison sentence

A man who killed his aunt and left her body in a rural area of central Saskatchewan, has received a 12 year prison sentence.

Stephen Greyeyes, 35, appeared Thursday at Court of King’s Bench in Saskatoon.

Guilty pleas were entered to manslaughter and causing indignity to a body.

Deanna Greyeyes, 66, was found dead in November, 2018.

Her body was located near Muskeg Lake Cree Nation just a day after she was reported missing.

Stephen Greyeyes was arrested on Jan. 28, 2022.

Family members have previously disclosed he suffered from a meth addiction, and believed it played a large role in what happened.

This was confirmed when facts were read in court by Crown Prosecutor John Knox. Stephen admitted to being very high on meth and had engaged in an argument with Deanna. During the ensuing fight, he then proceeded to strangle her with a cord.

When paNOW reached out on Thursday for comment on the sentencing, they declined.

With remand credit, Stephen Greyeyes has just over nine years left to serve.
