Freezing rain leads to travel advisories, school bus cancellations

The freezing rain overnight has caused some trouble for highways around Prince Albert Thursday morning.

Highway Hotline said that travel is not recommended on Highway 55 between Shellbrook and Big River due to icy conditions. Travel is also being discouraged around Spiritwood, affecting Highways 3, 12, and 24.

The freezing rain has so far led to some bus cancellations for the Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division. As of 6:45 Thursday morning, busses for Red Wing, Osborne, West Central, East Central, Shellbrook, Debden, Big River, and Canwood are not running. The affected schools though remain open.

The division said that if conditions improve later in the day, the busses will run for the afternoon.
