Freezing rain causes serious injuries & vehicle collisions in Prince Albert

Dec 7, 2023 | 5:16 PM

The freezing rain has kept Parkland Ambulance busy in and around Prince Albert.

The paramedic service has been called out to multiple vehicle collisions and slips and falls.

Lyle Karasiuk, the Director of Public Affairs for Parkland Ambulance, told paNOW the vehicle collisions were all minor, but some people who fell suffered serious injuries.

“Nothing that’s life-threatening but certainly… it’s going to (have) folks stuck at home.”

Karasiuk explained some suffered broken bones. He added all incidents were unfortunate as none of the people they helped were doing anything reckless.

“Purely innocent things that people are sadly landing in the emergency department (for),” he said.

The weather is expected to clear up on Friday, however, Karasiuk believes some areas will still be quite slippery. He specifically mentioned side roads as they don’t get the same attention as main streets.

Karasiuk noted it’s important people salt their walkways and driveways, kitty litter can also be used, to help limit the chance of falling.
