Mintos collect three points on quick two-game road trip

The Prince Albert Mintos are returning home from their two game road trip in Southern Saskatchewan this weekend with three out of a possible four points.

The Mintos picked up the win on Saturday afternoon by doubling up the Pat Canadians in Regina 4-2 before falling 4-3 in overtime to the Hounds at Notre Dame.

During Saturday’s contest, captain Van Taylor led Prince Albert in the points department scoring once while adding two assists. Kelan Simmonds also had a multi-point outing with a goal and assist while Owen Nelson and Carter Bergen were the other goal scorers. Teigan Semchyshen had a pair of helpers in the game along with Owen Dyck and Kale Margolis who both collected one. Netminder Brady Holtvogt was a wall for the Green and Gold, stopping 35 shots en route to the win.

Isaac Poll and Maddox Schultz lit the lamp for Regina while Brodie Hicks, Casey Brown, Jaxon Skiftun, and Logan Mehl potted the helpers. Jaidyn Shaw took the loss for the Pat C’s in the game, turning aside 24 shots as Regina falls to 13-6-0 on the season.

On Sunday against the Hounds, Nelson kept up the scoring by potting another two goals in the contest, propelling him into sole possession of first in league scoring with 33 points.

Along with Nelson, Dyck also scored in the contest while Taylor, Semchyshen, Simmonds, Raydr Wallington, Will Whitter, and Taite Donkin collected the helpers. Joshua Henry stopped 11 of 14 shots before being pulled after the second where Holtvogt would go on to finish the game with an additional eight saves.

Meanwhile for Notre Dame, Sutton Verot, Ryan Kowalsky, and Bexson Fox scored the regulation goals while Ash Mitchelmore was the OT hero. Pherson Loehndorf and Cameron Kuzma both managed two assists in the game while Jakob Boekelder, Kaden MacLean, and Caleb Kornelsen each had one. In goal was Mariko Bercier who made 30 saves to help the Hounds improve to 6-11-3 on the year.

Following the weekend, the Mintos are now tied for first in the SMAAAHL with a record of 15-6-3.

The Mintos are back on the ice in exactly one week as they prepare to take on the Notre Dame at the Art Hauser Centre on Sunday afternoon. Puck drop is scheduled for 1:30.
