The federal government is celebrating a big win in its ongoing dispute with the U.S. over access to Canada’s dairy market.

A settlement panel rejected complaints from the U.S. Trade Representative’s office over how Canada is allocating its dairy import quotas.

It’s the second dispute resolution panel in three years to explore U.S. complaints that Canada is unfairly favouring processors over producers.

The findings of the first one, released in December 2021, found largely in favour of the U.S., although Ottawa still tried to frame it as a victory.

International Trade Minister Mary Ng said the latest findings are a vindication for Canada’s approach to import quotas.

Another outbreak of avian flu has been identified in Chilliwack.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said the case, as well as two others identified Friday in Chilliwack and Langley Township, involve commercial poultry farms.

The agency’s national tally lists 48 locations in B.C. with infected flocks.

The province has an estimated 5.1 million birds that are impacted, or more than half the total number of infected birds across the country.

One person is in police custody after a tractor rolled over on Highway 1 in Surrey.

B.C. Highway Patrol said they encountered a person driving a tractor, possibly involved in a protest, on the highway just after 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Police attempted to stop the tractor, resulting in a collision with a police vehicle and the tractor later rolled over after trying to take a westbound on-ramp.

One person in police custody was also taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
