The Saskatchewan Roughriders have cut ties with defensive back Nic Marshall.

Over the weekend, media reports indicated the 31-year-old CFL defensive back was facing a gun charge in Georgia.

Reports said Marshall and a woman who was in a vehicle with him were both arrested in Columbus on Wednesday. Inside the car, police reportedly found a modified, automatic handgun.

The club released a statement on Sunday evening that it had been made aware of the situation. The Roughriders said the team was “disappointed and taking this matter seriously.”

The Pineview, Ga., product played quarterback in college with the Auburn University Tigers. After converting to defensive back, he joined the Roughriders in 2018 following stints in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets.

In 2023, Marshall had 31 tackles and five interceptions in 17 regular-season games. In 77 career regular-season CFL games — all with Saskatchewan — he has 150 tackles and 20 interceptions.

Marshall is the club’s all-time leader with five career pick-sixes.
