Man caught with gun and stolen vehicle at JSCN, receives four months jail
A man charged after a tense situation at James Smith Cree Nation, that forced a local school to enact its hold and secure protocols, has received a four-month jail sentence and a 10-year firearms prohibition.
Kalen Felix was at Melfort Provincial Court on Friday, and guilty pleas were entered to possession of property obtained by crime, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
The incident occurred on the morning of Sept. 22. Melfort RCMP received a report of armed individuals at JSCN.
The community’s security personnel observed a vehicle with two occupants, and they claimed a firearm was visible inside the vehicle. Officers immediately responded and soon found the suspect vehicle. A firearm was located and seized.
