Nov 2, 2023 | 12:42 PM

A man wanted in connected to a Saskatchewan extortion case has been located and arrested.

On Monday, the investigating officers determined Jared Naytowhow was in a residence on Sturgeon Lake First Nation.

Officers from Saskatchewan RCMP’s WEST, Prince Albert RCMP, Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan, Police Dog Services, North District Management Team and Critical Incident Response Team worked for numerous hours to have Naytowhow surrender to police.

A conducted energy device was deployed and he was arrested late in the day.

A search warrant was executed at the residence after Naytowhow’s arrest. Officers located and seized a sawed-off shotgun.

Naytowhow appeared in court on Tuesday.

The case itself dates back to September when there was a shooting at Sturgeon Lake First Nation and a subsequent assault and extortion attempt that sent one man to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Ian Felix, Jared Naytowhow, and Brianna Forest were charged with several counts including extortion with firearm, forcible confinement and aggravated assault.

On Oct. 18, after a month of investigation, RCMP West discovered a stolen vehicle from Melfort while on active patrol and after following the vehicle to a residence identified Felix as a suspect and made an arrest on the outstanding warrant.

Officers also found and seized guns and ammunition in both the vehicle and the residence.

Savannah Burns, another suspect from last month’s extortion case, was also arrested and charged on multiple counts including extortion with firearm, two counts of aggravated assault, forcible confinement and assault with a weapon. She made a court appearance on Oct. 20.

Prince Albert RCMP and WEST continue efforts to locate Brianna Forest.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is encouraged to contact their local RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers.
