A woman described a staple in Prince Albert’s curling community, has been formally recognized for her contributions to the sport – both on and off the ice.

During a special presentation Saturday night at the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Centre (PAGCC), Pat Bibby was named ambassador of curling. When contacted by paNOW, she confirmed it was definitely an honour to be recognized by the city and by members of PAGCC.

Bibby has been involved with curling for many years, both as an active member of the local club, since its inception in 1968 (and a few at the old rink); and also as an instructor at both the junior and adult levels.

Bibby has also chaired countless events and helps to bring awareness to the sport of curling through her volunteerism at the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Centre.

Presenting Bibby with the honour were Bryan Rindal, husband of the late Deanna Rindal and Mayor Greg Dionne. Also on hand to help Bibby celebrate were family, friends, and curlers at the spiel.

The Deanna Rindal Memorial two-person Bonspiel is an annual event to raise funds for the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation in honour of the late Deanna Rindal. Rindal was a resident of Prince Albert, an avid curler, and a world level curling umpire when she passed away from cancer in 2019.

“This event would mean so much to her,” Bryan Rindal said.

Brynn Boback-Lane, president and CEO of the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation, spoke of the long history between the Rindal’s and the foundation. She fondly recalled growing up with Deanna and how important the health and well-being of children was to her.

Boback-Lane also noted how proud Deanna would have been to know that Bibby was being honoured.

While the final total has not yet been released, it is anticipated the Deanna Rindal Memorial two-person Bonspiel raised over $8,000 for the foundation.
