Editor’s note: a previous version of this story indicated the three accused were facing a charge of conspiracy to commit murder, however that charge has been stayed.

A serious incident involving allegations of forcible confinement, aggravated assault and administering a noxious substance, is proceeding to trial.

As per discussions during Friday’s pre-trial hearing at Court of King’s Bench in Prince Albert, two weeks have been set aside in November of next year for the judge-alone trial. The proceedings are scheduled to start on Nov. 4, 2024.

According to a copy of the indictment, provided to paNOW, the alleged offences are said to have occurred in the Prince Albert and/or Duck Lake areas, between Feb. 23 and Feb. 25, 2023.

In total over 20 charges are before the court.

Nigal David Hunt-Best and Derrick Leon Laliberte from Saskatoon, and Shantel Mike from Beardy’s & Okemasis Cree Nation, stand accused of unlawful confinement, aggravated assault, robbery, administering a noxious substance (pills and bleach), uttering threats, and various gun-related offences.

Laliberte also stands further accused of breach of probation.

At the time of their arrest, the trio were also accused of conspiring to commit murder, however, that charge has since been stayed by the Crown.

A single female victim was identified in the indictment.

No other details have been made public at this time, and no pleas have been entered.
