The Prince Albert Raiders have climbed into a tie for first place in the WHL’s eastern conference standings after beating the Regina Pats 6-4 on Friday night at the Art Hauser Centre.

After falling behind 2-1 after the first period, the Raiders responded with three goals in the second period to take control of the game. Defenceman Tyrone Sobry scored his first WHL goal, while fellow d-man Easton Kovacs scored his first goal as a member of the Raiders. Kovacs was named the first star while Sobry was named the second star.

“It was unreal, I didn’t even know it went in,” said Sobry. “I got the puck up from [Grady Martin] and I threw it on net. It didn’t leave the ice but it slid in bottom corner – feels unreal.”

Raiders forward Sloan Stanick chipped in with a goal and an assist, while forward Cole Peardon had two assists.

Goaltender Chase Coward stopped 22 shots to pick up his third win in a Raiders uniform.

“We dug in in the second and third periods. We got the puck and simplified things going north. Making good and aware plays – awareness plays off the rush and getting more quality shots than what we did in the first period,” said Raiders Head Coach Jeff Truitt when asked what he liked out of his team following the win.

Friday was also a special night for the Prince Albert Raiders organization as they inducted former Raiders staff member and longtime community staple Bruce Vance into their Wall of Honour.

With the win the Raiders now have points in six straight games heading into Saturday night’s matchup against the Moose Jaw Warriors.
