Mintos pick up two wins on three-in-three road trip in Southern Sask.

Oct 8, 2023 | 9:02 PM

The Prince Albert Mintos are coming back from Southern Saskatchewan with a pair of wins following their three-in-three weekend.

The Mintos began their journey on Friday in Moose Jaw for a clash with the Winmar Warriors.

Despite scoring in the opening frame, P.A. found themselves trailing by one after the first twenty. The second period is where the tides would shift however, as newcomer Kale Margolis would score his first two goals in the frame to give the Mintos a 3-2 lead. From then on in the third, netminder Brady Holtvogt stopped everything that the Warriors could shoot at him to help Prince Albert collect the win.

FRIDAY’S BOX SCORE

In game two on Saturday afternoon, the Mintos travelled further south to Affinity Place in Estevan to take on the Great North Bears.

Following a scoreless first, Marc Belanger got the party started for the home team which led to another goal for Estevan later in the period. Before the buzzer sounded however, Owen Nelson got Prince Albert on the board with 22 seconds left to make it a one goal game going into the third.

Things began to unravel in the final period for the Mintos as Estevan would go on to score three more in the frame to take it 5-1.

SATURDAY’S BOX SCORE

The final game of the busy weekend was a rematch against the Bears in a Sunday matinee.

Prince Albert came into the game seeking to get back at Estevan from the day before and not only did they get their revenge, they did it in blowout fashion.

The Mintos hung seven goals on the Bears in the game all while Holtvogt stood tall between the pipes, turning aside everything the Estevan had. The 16-year-old netminder made 24 saves to collect his first career shutout with the Green and Gold.

SUNDAY’S BOX SCORE

Following their road trip, Prince Albert improves to 3-2-0-0 on the campaign.

The Mintos are back at home for their next set of games this weekend for a doubleheader against the Swift Current Legionnaires at the Art Hauser Centre. Game one is slated for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday while game two will happen on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
