The alleged driver of a stolen vehicle, involved in a multi-vehicle crash west of Prince Albert, has been ordered to remain in custody.

Lisa Marie Smith, 37, was denied bail Tuesday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court. She appeared for the hearing via video from the Pinegrove Correctional Center.

The crash on June 28 happened at the Crutwell turnoff, and a total of three vehicles were involved.

RCMP confirmed two people were taken to hospital but the injuries were described as non-life threatening.

Smith was allegedly behind the wheel of the vehicle that was flipped onto its roof. Multiple witnesses, driving on the highway at the time, recalled for paNOW memories of seeing the vehicle travel at a very fast rate of speed and crossing the center line.

Smith was subsequently charged with three counts of dangerous driving, including two for causing bodily harm. She was also accused of attempting to leave the scene of an accident and providing police with a false name.

The evidence discussed during the bail hearing, and the judge’s reasons for not releasing Smith, are protected by a publication ban. However with respect to these types of hearings, judges are asked to consider risk to public safety and a person’s likelihood to show up to court. They also take into consideration someone is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The case has been adjourned to Sept. 11 for plea.
