Mental health crisis reason for River Street standoff in Prince Albert
Prince Albert Police say a recent standoff on River Street West came about due to a mental health crisis.
On Aug. 9, officers were called to an apartment building and tried to get a man to leave with them so he could be assessed by a medical practitioner. The man refused and ended up arming himself with an axe and knife.
Because of this, police secured the area by closing off a section of 12 Street W and had members from the Crisis Negotiator Team (CNT) come out to try and diffuse the situation. Parkland Ambulance was also asked to stay nearby as a precaution.
Eventually, SWAT and the Critical Incident Command (CIC) were called out.
