Car enthusiasts both young and old packed the parking lot of the Northern Lights Casino on Saturday for the Klassic Kruizers Kar Klub’s 25th annual Casino Car Show.

All different kinds of cars could be seen, from lowriders and hotrods to new and old with some dating back to the 1920s.

The club and the car show’s founder Sheldon Novak said this event is more than just about the cars themselves.

“We remember the old cars that we had in high school and all the good times and, all this is, is a continuation of those good times,” he explained. “Everybody’s got a story about a car, [whether] it be about the first date or in high school or whatever, you got to enjoy the memories.”

The car show featured live music from Blue Mules Band, and Jilly and the Twelvetones. A food cart was also on location and a raffle was held for a Charity Charger, a 1970 Dodge Charger RT Resto Mod.

Compared to previous years, the number of cars in this year’s show was down. Novak explained despite the shortage of competitors, the spirit at the show was as high as it had ever been.

“One of the things that’s happened here today, unfortunately for the rain, we had a number of other car shows in Saskatoon, Martensville, Warman, and all the rest. Normally, we get about 250 cars, well with the rain and just the way things worked out, our attendance is a little bit down but our enthusiasm is still there.”

Novak continued by sharing what it means to be a part of an event like the Casino Car Show.

“It tugs at your heart,” he said with a smile. “You can still see that the enthusiasm and the memories and the people – even though they don’t have a vehicle, they remember a car from back then, so naturally they come here and say, ‘Oh I remember that car’ or ‘my friend had that car’ and it brings back memories. One thing about having these cars is it keeps you young, and that’s the important thing.”

The Klassic Kruizers Kar Klub was founded in 1988 out of Novak’s garage in Prince Albert with the Casino Car Show following a decade later.
