Four Prince Albert basketball players proudly represented Saskatchewan at a recent national tournament.

The four players from Carlton High School included Emerson MacCuaig, Isak Larsen, Zane Litzenberger, and Clarence Ermine who had returned from a successful showing at the North American Indigenous Games days before the tournament.

Before the NAIG, Ermine was also in a basketball tournament in California.

When asked by paNOW how the experience was for him, he said it was exciting.

“I got to meet different athletes across Canada. It was an unforgettable experience,” he said.

Robert Anderson coaches the four players in Prince Albert and was able to travel to Sherbrooke, Quebec to watch them play, something he said was quite the sight.

“It was pretty surreal seeing them out there,” he said. “I don’t know when there’s been four provincial team players from Prince Albert before. It’s pretty amazing.”

Anderson said the players have travelled extensively over the summer at different events in places like Las Vegas and California.

He attributes the success of the players to the growth of the minor basketball community in Prince Albert.

“(It’s) definitely a sign the P.A. Thunder is having a huge impact and especially the growth in the last year,” said Anderson. “PA basketball is definitely making its mark on the map.”

Ontario won the 15U and 17U Boys Championships with Saskatchewan finishing sixth in the 17U Boys tournament.
