The Melfort Mustangs have completed a blockbuster trade with the Melville Millionaires.

The Stangs have acquired 2003-born defenceman and Prince Albert player Chase Friedt-Mohr and a fifth-round draft pick in 2025, for 2006-born defenceman Cohen Swan, 2006-born forward Evhan Allan, a first-round draft pick in 2024, a third-round draft pick in 2025, and a player development fee (PDF).

Friedt-Mohr (6-0/192 pounds), has played parts of the last four seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL), as well as the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL).

The veteran defender has played a grand total of 125 regular season WHL games split between the Spokane Chiefs, Edmonton Oil Kings, and Tri-City Americans, scoring eight goals and adding 13 assists for 21 points.

He also contributed one assist in six playoff games, all for Tri-City in 22/23, while posting nine points in 67 regular season games.

“Chase’s experience, along with his high level of play, will certainly make an impact in our lineup this season,” Mustangs head coach and general manager Trevor Blevins said. “His contribution to our leadership group will be a valuable asset to our dressing room. We expect Chase to be an elite defender in the SJHL.”

During the 2021/2022 season, Friedt-Mohr played 20 games for the Kindersley Klippers, scoring one goal and adding five assists before heading back to the WHL.

Prior to his time in the WHL and SJHL, he played two full seasons with the Prince Albert Mintos U18 AAA club, where he was named captain for the 2019/2020 season.

As for what’s heading back to the Millionaires, Swan (6-2/170 pounds), out of Saskatoon, is a former second-round draft pick of the Stangs, back in 2022.

The 22/23 season saw Swan play 43 games for the Saskatoon Contacts, scoring twice and adding 10 assists for 12 points, while also contributing two assists in nine playoff games.

Meanwhile, Allan (6-2/174 pounds), from Davidson, is also a former draft pick of the Blue and Green back in 2022, however, he was selected in the fourth round.

Allan spent this past season with the Estevan Bears U18 AAA organization, scoring seven goals and adding three assists in 36 games.

He is also a fourth-round pick of the Prince Albert Raiders, back in the 2021 in the WHL Draft.
