Saskatoon Police Service Chief Troy Cooper — the former chief of the Prince Albert Police Service — reacted Wednesday to the news that a P.A. police officer was facing charges after an in-custody death.

A 21-year member of the Prince Albert police force has been charged with criminal negligence causing death and failing to provide the necessities of life in the case.

Cooper, who served as Prince Albert’s police chief from 2012 to 2018, said the investigation will have to run its course until an answer has been found.

“We have a really great process in Saskatchewan to investigate complaints made against police officers,” Cooper said Wednesday. “We also have a trusted process in the judiciary that will be examined and more information will be provided.”
